Dr. Douglas L. Blackwell is married to Dawn Blackwell they have two children, Jasmine (17) and William (14). Dr. Blackwell’s educational background consists of receiving his Bachelors of Science Degree with a concentration in Manufacturing Systems Technology from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University (NC A&T SU). After two years in the workforce, Dr. Blackwell returned to NC A&T SU to earn a Master’s of Science Degree with a concentration in Technology Education. He has also earned Specialist and Doctoral Degrees in the field of Educational Leadership.

 

Prior to assuming the role of Principal at Sims Academy of Innovation and Technology, Dr. Blackwell held the position of Director of Career Technical and Agricultural Education (CTAE) in the Greene County School System. Before assuming the position of CTAE Director in Greene County, he served as Assistant Principal of Instruction at the Newton College and Career Academy. Dr. Blackwell’s experience in the field of education spans over 20 years. His goal as a leader is to contribute to educational experiences of all students in the Barrow County School System in order to produce lifelong learners.

 

 

 

 

 

Ms. Perry, a native of Georgia, grew up in neighboring Oconee County. After earning a Bachelors Degree in Home Economics (Child Development) and a Master of Social Work degree (Administration, Planning and Community Organization) from the University of Georgia, she worked in Seattle and in Nashville as a perinatal social worker.

 

She was one of Georgia’s first service coordinators for the Babies Can’t Wait Program, and spent 13 years as the executive director for Adult Literacy Barrow, a local non-profit organization. Most recently, she was the Title I Family Engagement Specialist for Barrow County School System. Ms. Perry has served in leadership positions on numerous boards and committees locally and at the state level.

 

She and her husband have twin daughters who attend the University of Georgia.

 

 

 

Ms. Donna Reeves is a Georgia native. Her childhood was spent growing up in rural Alabama. She has lived in Winder for over 20 years. She has worked in the Barrow County School System for 10 years, Kennedy Elementary, Snodon Preparatory High School and now Sims Academy, with various job titles. Prior to working for Barrow County, she was a homemaker and home schooled her children for 6 years. She has 4 children - Tiffany, Emily, Trey, and Trent

 

 

 

 

 

 

Ms. Bales is a native of Barrow County. She was born and raised on a little farm in Bethlehem, GA.

 

Carol has worked with Barrow County School Nutrition since 1999 and left her post as assistant manager at Winder Barrow High School after 13 years to open the Academy in 2014. She is ServSafe Certified, devoted to the students of Barrow County, and excited about this new chapter in her career.

 

Carol has two children: Dustin and Heather who are both graduates of the Barrow County School System. Carol also has a nephew, Tyson, which lives with her and has become her adopted son. Carol has one grandson, Conner, who attends BRES.
